It used to be so easy getting people interested in my photography business
. I started my biz in 2012 ... back when a few simple Facebook posts had clients lining up at the studio door. These days, you’re lucky if anyone sees your posts right? The free advertising gravy train has left the station. Now it’s pay to play through Facebook ads or come up with creative new ways to keep your followers interested.
Back where it all began, September 2012. WOW! I think I had about 100 followers and still managed to get 26 likes. Remember those days? Ha!
VALUE VALUE VALUE
It’s certainly a marketing buzz word right now. But what does it mean?
Why do you need to give your clients value on social media?
What does that look like?
IT DOESN'T MEAN A GOOD DEAL OR $$$$.
First up, let’s get this straight. When we’re talking about value in marketing land, we don’t meant value for money. Value can mean different things to different people.
THE BASIC IDEA IS THIS
You need to look at your audience or target market and give them a reason to follow your social media page. A reason to like you. Engage. Leave comments. Click on the link to your website.
If you’re still relying on your pretty photos to do the work for you, I’m sorry to say that those days are over my friend.
Does your feed look like this? Baby photo. Baby photo. Baby Photo.
SO NOW WHAT?
If posting nice imagery every day isn’t enough to keep people interested, what should you be posting? VALUABLE CONTENT.
There’s that word again. Value. So let’s work out what that might look like.
WHO IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?
Hopefully you know this already. If you’re a professional photographer who works in the baby industry, you should have that sussed by now. Mothers. New mothers. Expectant mothers. Mothers with children of all ages. The odd grandma too. Am I right?
SO WHAT IS VALUABLE TO THESE PEOPLE ON A BASIC LEVEL?
Oh so many things. Big and small. Let’s list off a few to make it easy ...
A sentimental moment
Something that makes their lives easier
The answers to their problems
Something that makes them feel something, anything.
I bet you can think of more!
You've got to give your mamas what they value!
Can posting baby photos on your feed achieve these things? Some of them, yes! But if all you are doing is giving them photo after photo of people they don’t know, that may give them the odd smile, but it’s just not enough any more. It’s no wonder your engagement levels are low.
Are you enjoying this article so far? Are you finding it valuable? Well that’s because you are my target market and I am creating something for you that I know that you want or need. Get the idea? Now it is your turn.
SO WHAT CAN YOU DO NOW?

PINK CONTENT CARDS
Keep an eye out
every few days for these pink Content Tips cards that will hopefully inspire you to create more valuable content. Let’s start with an easy one first ... a laugh.
Did you know that I’ve been scheduling social media posts now for a number of photographers over the last 6 to 12 months and more often than not there the posts of a joke get more engagement and reaction than most of the beautiful photos they post. Remember every time someone engages with your content, it helps you stay in their newsfeed. So give them something valuable, encourage them to interact and you’ll reap the rewards
I’ve done all the work for you to get started.

PS - Is no one reading your blog posts any more? Guess what? It’s the same theory. If you’re just posting blogs of your client work, it’s time for some change! Blog posts that provide value… that’s what will get people interested. Don’t worry, I’m here to help. But not today. That’s a blog for another day so stay tuned
